''This fall the Urban Forest Project will plant 100 banners by artists and
designers from Albuquerque in locations throughout the city. Each banner will
use the form of the tree, or a metaphor for the tree, to make a powerful visual
statement about the environment. Together they’ll create a forest of thoughtful
images and we hope that by bringing these images to the urban landscape we
will encourage those passing by to pause, if only for a moment, to be entertained, stimulated or provoked by the work. And to raise awareness of the importance of trees in the city and in our lives.
The banners will be hung on light poles in a series of high-profile locations in the greater Albuquerque area beginning in mid-September 2009. Once the banners come down they will be recycled into unique products designed exclusively for the project and sold at auction. The proceeds will go to Tree New
Mexico (www.treenm.com) to support their tree planting efforts in Albuquerque and their mission to 'keep New Mexico clean beautiful and healthy.''' -The Urban Forest Project
